Step 6: Repair + Replace
Repair + Replace
If you did a Pre-Sale Home Inspection, you should already have a list of items that need to be fixed. If you did not have an inspection, in general, I recommend:
Repairing drywall and touching up paint. If it hasn’t been updated in years, consider repainting home or individual rooms in neutral colors.
Installing new caulk around every tub and shower.
Replacing furnace air filters and an extra step would be to hire an HVAC company to clean and service your A/C and furnace.
Checking all your interior and exterior GFCI outlets and replace the faulty ones.
Steam cleaning your carpets, either yourself or hiring a company.
Making sure all light bulbs are working, replace any that are not.
Making sure fireplaces are in working order.
Having chimneys professionally swept. If any brick is loose have it repaired.
Changing outdated cabinet hardware in kitchens and bathrooms.
Repairing any broken window screens at your local Ace Hardware (search for a location that provides this service near you).
Testing all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are functioning properly.
Making sure downspouts aren’t damaged and that they are properly sloped.
Repairing any damaged, broken or missing roof shingles.
